Juzcar, the Smurf village

29Jul

Ronda is one of the most beautiful towns in Malaga, in Spain and in the world. It is also one of the most popular and most visited, but… did you know that its mountains hide a fantastic secret?

Up in the mountains, only 14 miles away from Ronda we find Juzcar, now also known as the “Smurf village”.

Not long ago Juzcar was one of the many white villages we have in Andalusia, but things changed in 2011 when it was chosen to host the world premiere of the first film of the Smurfs. Every building and house in the village (including the church) got painted in blue in honour of the cute creatures created back in the late fifties by the Belgian cartoonist Peyo.

Many of us thought that after the premiere the village will get repainted in white, but it seems that the villagers now love blue and want to keep on calling their market “Smurfmarket” or their tapas “Smurftapas” so, in the end, the village has remained blue and has kept the Smurfs on display on some walls.

Now this cute village is ready to celebrate again as this week the second film of the Smurfs will be released.

If you spent your childhood watching these wonderful cartoons we are sure that you will enjoy loads in Juzcar, so if right now you are on holiday at Hotel Florida Spa, your hotel in Fuengirola, or you are planning to visit us soon we recommend you to go to Juzcar… You will love it, it is Smurftastic!!

The Torcal in Antequera

22Jul

Back in June here on the blog of Hotel Florida Spa we recommended you to visit the town of Antequera and its spectacular Dolmens of Menga.

Today we would like to continue talking about Antequera, though this time the highlight will be its famous Torcal.

The Torcal in Antequera is an important natural spot known due to the amazing shapes of its limestones. Its origin is Jurassic and in spite of its height this group of rocks was part of the sea bottom between 250 and 150 million of years ago… Impressive!!

Right now the Torcal is competing with other wonderful places in the country to win the Best Corner in Spain 2013 title. We wish it all the best and we hope it wins as in the whole world there aren’t many places as amazing as this one.

This is one of the most interesting and amazing spots in Spain in spite of being  quite unknown to most tourists who chose Costa del Sol as their holiday destination.

Hotel Florida Spa, your hotel in Fuengirola, wanted to let you know about its existence as it is just 49 miles away from Fuengirola so in just over 1 hour by car you will be there.

The Torcal is truly amazing and it is not far at all so we obviously recommend you to visit it as it is well worth it. You will be amazed!
