The Stupa of Benalmadena

Have you ever observed the landscape from the beach in Fuengirola and have seen something golden and shiny up in the mountains? Well, that sparkly thing you saw is no other but the Buddhist Stupa in Benalmadena.

This stupa is known as the “Enlightenment Stupa” and for now it is the biggest one in Europe.

This temple represents peace, prosperity and harmony and it is a place for meditation since it opened its doors 15 years ago.

Inside the building there is a meditation room with beautiful paintings on its walls, and downstairs there is a room that is used for exhibitions related to Tibetan Buddhism, the culture of the Himalayans and the stupas around the world.

If you fancy visiting this beautiful place for meditation you can do it without much trouble thanks to the train line that connects Fuengirola with Malaga and other resorts in Costa del Sol. You only have to get the train in Fuengirola station (the closest one to Hotel Florida Spa) and get off in Benalmádena – Arroyo de la Miel. Once you are there, right by the station, you will have to get on the M103, the bus that connects Arroyo de la Miel with the Stupa and the Butterfly Park, another unique attraction in Costa del Sol well worth a visit, which we already recommended a while ago here on our blog.

The Enlightenment Stupa is closed on Monday, but it is open the rest of the days, so if you are staying at Hotel Florida Spa and after reading this post you are all curious and fancy taking a closer look to this wonderful place, we recommend you a visit.

Its beautiful architecture, its stunning paintings and the wonderful views of the coast that you can enjoy from there are certainly breathtaking.

Have fun exploring Costa del Sol!

Exhibition about Japan in CAC Mijas

At Hotel Florida Spa we are aware many of you quite like art, so because of this we frequently use this blog to recommend you some of the many great exhibitions we have the fortune to have available in Costa del Sol.

Today is one of these occasions as since the 30th of November and until the 27th of February CAC Mijas is housing a very interesting exhibition called “Japan: Culture and Tradition”.

This exhibition is on display in Exhibition Room number 2 of CAC Mijas and its purpose is to celebrate the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relationships between Spain and Japan.

In CAC Mijas now, you can see many beautiful engravings in rice paper from the 19th Century by some of Japan’s most famous artists.

These works show Japanese everyday life scenes and several characters like emperors, samurais and geishas.

Apart from the engravings there is also a crystal urn with a “kabuto”, which is a type of helmet used by ancient Japanese warrior, as well as a “katana”.

As we have said in previous blogs when we have recommended CAC Mijas, this museum is in the centre of Mijas Pueblo, in calle Malaga, and it is open Monday to Saturday from 10 P.M to 6 P.M.

CAC Mijas is a very popular museum in Costa del Sol. Its regular entry price to access all facilities of the museum is 3 euros, and the price for groups and over 65s is only 2 euros.

If you are planning to visit Mijas soon we recommend you visit this interesting exhibition about the Empire of the Rising Sun!

Visit Nerja

Are you planning to visit Hotel Florida Spa in 2019? Are you willing to be more adventurous and to visit new places?

We hope your answer to both questions is yes as we love seeing you back and we also love to see you enjoying and making the most of your holidays.

This week on our blog we would like to recommend you a visit to Nerja, a beautiful town in Costa del Sol known all over Spain thanks to a famous Spanish TV series from the 80s called “Verano Azul”.

Nerja is a touristic town that still keeps its typical Andalusian charm. It has beautiful beaches, good food and great beaches, so it is a great place to get to spend a day while on holiday in Costa del Sol, even during the winter season.

Nerja is also famous for its stunning caves which were discovered by hazard by 5 teenagers in the late 50s. Inside the caves there are remains of cave paintings of over 42.000 years of age and some impressive stalactites and stalagmites.

If you have not visited Nerja yet here at Hotel Florida Spa we encourage you to do it as you will be able to see with your own eyes one of the many treasures that Costa del Sol has in store for you!
