The Stupa of Benalmadena

Have you ever observed the landscape from the beach in Fuengirola and have seen something golden and shiny up in the mountains? Well, that sparkly thing you saw is no other but the Buddhist Stupa in Benalmadena.

This stupa is known as the “Enlightenment Stupa” and for now it is the biggest one in Europe.

This temple represents peace, prosperity and harmony and it is a place for meditation since it opened its doors 15 years ago.

Inside the building there is a meditation room with beautiful paintings on its walls, and downstairs there is a room that is used for exhibitions related to Tibetan Buddhism, the culture of the Himalayans and the stupas around the world.

If you fancy visiting this beautiful place for meditation you can do it without much trouble thanks to the train line that connects Fuengirola with Malaga and other resorts in Costa del Sol. You only have to get the train in Fuengirola station (the closest one to Hotel Florida Spa) and get off in Benalmádena – Arroyo de la Miel. Once you are there, right by the station, you will have to get on the M103, the bus that connects Arroyo de la Miel with the Stupa and the Butterfly Park, another unique attraction in Costa del Sol well worth a visit, which we already recommended a while ago here on our blog.

The Enlightenment Stupa is closed on Monday, but it is open the rest of the days, so if you are staying at Hotel Florida Spa and after reading this post you are all curious and fancy taking a closer look to this wonderful place, we recommend you a visit.

Its beautiful architecture, its stunning paintings and the wonderful views of the coast that you can enjoy from there are certainly breathtaking.

Have fun exploring Costa del Sol!

“Filming in Malaga”

Do you remember when last February here on our blog we told you that famous actor Rupert Grint was in Malaga filming the new season of the TV series “Snatch”?

Well, our blog today is about filming again, as right now British series “Living the Dream” is being filmed in Malaga too.

The first season of this series was shot in Florida, but now they have found in Southern Spain the perfect spot to film season 2.

A pair of weeks ago the filming crew landed in Malaga and transformed the Teatinos Campus of the University of Malaga in an American High School, with a yellow school bus included.

The series is about a couple and their two children who decide to swap rainy Yorkshire for a new life in Florida.

If you are on holiday at Hotel Florida Spa, your hotel in Fuengirola, and you are planning to explore Costa del Sol, we recommend you keep your eyes open… who knows, you might see TV cameras around!

Star Wars exhibition in Malaga

Last week, here on the blog of Hotel Florida Spa, your hotel in Fuengirola, we recommended you visit the Fuengirola Museum to enjoy a fantastic art exhibition.

Today’s blog is also about an exhibition, though its theme is very different, as right now in Palmeral de las Sorpresas in Malaga Marina there is a fascinating exhibition about Star Wars called “Myths of a Galaxy Far Far Away”.

“Myths of a Galaxy Far Far Away” contains some unique collectors’ figures, autographs, multimedia content, life-size figures and other exclusive content of the Star Wars Saga. The highlight of it could certainly be the replica of the original Darth Vader helmet in “Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith” signed by actor Hayden Christensen.

This is the most important Star Wars collectors’ exhibition in Europe as it has received more than 1 million visitors after being displayed in several Spanish and Portuguese cities, as well as in Saudi Arabia.

The exhibition will be available until Sunday the 27th of May, and its entry price is only 6 euros, so if you are massive Star Wars fan and you are currently on holiday at Hotel Florida Spa we hope you visit it as you will have fun discovering the secrets of one of the most famous sagas in film history.
