Palm Sunday

This Sunday, the 25th of March, is Palm Sunday, so the official start of Holy Week in Spain.

If right now you are on holiday at Hotel Florida Spa, your hotel in Fuengirola, and you fancy experiencing a traditional Spanish Palm Sunday we have good news for you as you will not have to go too far to enjoy it. Although the processions that take place in Malaga city are stunning and better known in Fuengirola we also have some amazing ones.

On Sunday in fact there will be a small procession in Los Boliches. It will start at 10:30 El Cautivo Brotherhood Headquarters, located right by the fairground, and it will go pass Avenida Jesús El Cautivo, Calle Concepcion Guidet and Calle Iglesia and it will finish at 11:00 A.M. in Los Boliches Church.

Besides this religious ceremony in Los Boliches, there will be other special events in other 2 churches in town.

In Del Carmen Church, located right in the town centre of Fuengirola by the Town Hall and Bioparc, at 10:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. there will be special Palm Sunday masses.

In San Jose Church, located near Avenida de Mijas, at 12:00 P.M. a stunning procession will start. This procession will go pass the main streets in Fuengirola town centre, included Constitution Square at around 1:45 P.M., and it will finish in its Brotherhood Headquarters around 3:30 P.M.

If you like Spanish traditions we recommend you not to miss these special events, and not to forget your camera… You will certainly have the chance of taking some amazing photos!

Enjoy Holy Week in Costa del Sol!

Holy Week is here!

This Sunday, the 9th of April, Holy Week officially starts in Spain as we celebrate Palm Sunday.

In the past we have recommended you not to miss the amazing procession that takes place on this date in Fuengirola city centre, and this time we would like to do the same as it is one of the most beautiful events of our Holy Week.

The image that will be taken out in procession was created by Álvaro Abrines, a young sculptor from Seville who also created a similar figure for the town of Rute in Cordoba, and two of its most outstanding features are the peacefulness in Jesus eyes and the presence of a snail on its base.

This throne is commonly known as “La Pollinica” as one of its figures is a very young donkey which in Spanish is known as a “pollino”. This donkey accompanies the figure of Jesus as the Bible states that he entered Jerusalem on a donkey.

If you have the fortune of currently being on holiday at Hotel Florida Spa, your hotel in Fuengirola, we recommend you to experience how a traditional Spanish Holy Week is. If you wish so try not to miss this beautiful procession that will pass through the city centre. It will start on Sunday around midday, when the throne of Jesus will leave the San Jose Church, and will finish at around 3:00 P.M.

Enjoy our beautiful Holy Week!
