The Fair of Los Boliches 2019 and the Day of Virgen del Carmen

15heinä

If you have had the fortune of having stayed with us before this time of year you might already know that these last few and upcoming days are very important in Los Boliches.

From Friday the 12th to Tuesday the 16th of July the Fair of Los Boliches is on, so if right now you are on holiday at Hotel Angela, your hotel in Fuengirola, we recommend you visit the fairground as the fair is held there.

Tomorrow, Tuesday the 16th of July is in fact the most important day of this event as it is the day of Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint of Los Boliches.

Although this is celebrated by all locals in Los Boliches it is lived in a different and a more intense way.

Tomorrow in fact at 12:00 P.M. there will be a mass in honour of the Virgin in the Church of Los Boliches.

Being a man of the sea is a very hard and risky job, so due to the protection they believe the virgin gives them every 16th of July many of them take her out in procession as a way to express their gratitude.

This procession starts at 8:45 P.M. is considered by many as the most unique and special of the year so if right now you are on holiday at Hotel Florida Spa we recommend you to go to Los Boliches tomorrow evening to see this beautiful procession that ends with the Virgin in the sea surrounded by small boats and fireworks.

Enjoy one of the most awaited events of the year in Fuengirola!

Fair of Mijas 2018

03syys

Just two weeks ago here on the blog of Hotel Florida Spa we recommended you go to Mijas to enjoy its fantastic Contemporary Art Museum.

Today, however, we would like you to go to Mijas for a very different reason as this week its fair is on.

This fair, in honour of the patron of Mijas, Virgen de la Peña, is celebrated every year in early September.

The Fair of Mijas 2018 will start on Wednesday, the 5th of September, and will be on until Sunday the 9th of September.

Out of all these days the 8th of September is the most important one as it is the day of Virgen de la Peña and because of this the Virgin is taken out in a beautiful procession in the evening.

This, in fact, is one of the most beautiful religious acts in Costa del Sol, so it is worth seeing.

As you might already know getting to Mijas from Fuengirola is quite easy thanks to the fantastic bus service that connects both towns.

Buses to Mijas depart every 25 minutes from Fuengirola bus station and during the fair they tend to be operative for longer than normal to make sure lots of people can enjoy the fantastic fair.

We hope you follow our recommendation and have lots of fun in Mijas!

Virgen del Carmen Day

16heinä

If you have had the fortune of having stayed at Hotel Florida Spa this time of year you might already know that today is very important day in Fuengirola.

The Virgen del Carmen festival is celebrated in many coastal towns and village across Spain, and the Costa del Sol is one of the best places to enjoy it.

The history of Virgen del Carmen appears in the Old Testament where it is said that during Pentecost prophet Elias saw the Virgin on a cloud and he then built a temple in Mount Carmelo in her honour.

Virgen del Carmen is now the patroness and protector of sailors, fishermen, scuba divers and even the Spanish Army, so they always ask her to provide good conditions for fishing and protect their boats.

In Fuengirola, the procession of Virgen del Carmen will start this evening at around 20:45 from the Virgen del Carmen Church in Los Boliches. This is considered by many as the most unique and special procession of the year as it ends with the Virgin in the sea surrounded by small boats and fireworks.

If you are in Fuengirola this evening we definitely recommend you not to miss this amazing celebration.

We hope you enjoy one of the most awaited events of the year in Fuengirola!
